"Naptime"

7 x 9" oil/canvas mounted to hardwood panel

sold

This morning we awoke to subzero temperatures and a wind chill of about 25-30 below. As my husband headed out to feed cows, Bill our Border Collie wanted so badly to help. Reluctantly he took him with.
Bill's job is to keep the cows off the hay bales until my husband gets the twine removed. After they were done, this is where Bill spent the rest of the day.
This painting was done from life

I wondered if I could pull this painting off. In the beginning it basically had 2 values. Especially the top half of the painting. It seemed very distracting. But I loved the linear composition and felt that something would present itself. Toward the end, I added the saddle blanket and it seemed to break the 2 values into 3.
