This study, which I did for the large painting I am working on, came out much like "Cowgirl Shade" with its strong contrasts and simple shapes. But here I tried a little different approach, where instead of texturing the background I kept it smooth, then pushed in more paint on the shirt to make it stand above all those grays. Its difficult to make white "pop." You have to do it with contrasting values and texture, or it just seems to lay there.
