"Sunny Cat"

7 x 9" oil/ canvas mounted on hardwood panel

sold

Here is another painting of our cat LuLu. I was looking through a bunch of reference photos this morning and had them spread all over the floor. She came up and rolled all over the top of them as if to say, "Look at me. I'M pretty!"
So well, here she is. The subject is wonderful, and the composition has the same nice flow as the last one.
This painting was challenging because I wasn't sure if the shadows would work well. She is actually laying half in the sun and half out. So there are these strong cast shadows then the softer transition shadows going from sun to shade. I think I got it right.

"Sleepy Cat"

7 x 9"  oil/canvas panel

sold

Here is a painting I did earlier, before my blog was complete. It sold very quickly and I've received quite a few comments on it, so wanted to share it here today.

This is our cat "Lulu". I did this painting the day after "Montana Magpie" when I finally got her to hold still. I especially like the composition on this one. It really couldn't get much better.

"Naptime"

7 x 9" oil/canvas mounted to hardwood panel

sold

This morning we awoke to subzero temperatures and a wind chill of about 25-30 below. As my husband headed out to feed cows, Bill our Border Collie wanted so badly to help. Reluctantly he took him with.
Bill's job is to keep the cows off the hay bales until my husband gets the twine removed. After they were done, this is where Bill spent the rest of the day.
This painting was done from life

I wondered if I could pull this painting off. In the beginning it basically had 2 values. Especially the top half of the painting. It seemed very distracting. But I loved the linear composition and felt that something would present itself. Toward the end, I added the saddle blanket and it seemed to break the 2 values into 3.

"Morning Backlight"

8 x 10   oil/canvas panel

sold

I actually did this painting from a photo I took this past spring. I love how the light filters through this horses mane. The purple shadowy hues are what every artist dreams of.
