This is the start of the last and final painting of the horse named Filly, who died this past winter.
This is a just basic value study to work out placement and anatomy issues, and also to get an idea if the composition will work. If you look closely, you'll see there is another sketch beneath this one. One I abandoned earlier for a larger canvas.
Next I'll start to lay in more color, staying to the gray side and a few values darker than I want the final painting to be.
Note: Sorry, but I'll be gone camping for a week or so and won't be back until next week. I plan on doing some plein air painting while I'm gone, so hopefully I'll get something good enough to share.
